Huawei accustomed us with releasing smartphones that were accessible to most people. Their designs are up to the trends, performances very acceptable and prices ranging to fit all pockets. The company is quite active in this business niche, being very competitive when it comes to offering an affordable technology. But this time, Huawei managed to surprise us with their newly released smartphone model. Huawei P8 is their new mobile gadget, with surprising features and an even more remarkable price. For what is considered a middle range phone, P8 has to offer a lot more than the average phones of this category.

First of all, the way it looks will amaze you right from the start. It has a slim design and, most amazingly, a full metal case. Thus, it is much resistant and presentable than many other phones you can buy for the same price. It is light and comfortable when holding it in your hands, and you can really grab it, without the risk of dropping it on the floor. The body is made entirely out of one single piece and comes in three varieties of colors, black, gold and silver, meeting all preference demands. And since the back of the phone will not come off, the slots for the SIM card and memory card will be found on the side.

The display has a full HD resolution and a size of 5.2 inches, being large enough to look at everything you want. The colors are quite attractive also, without giving too false images, and icons and images look clear and crisp. Definitely a feature you will want to see in a new generation phone. It develops 424 pixels on every inch of the screen, still being well below the most appreciated Samsung Galaxy S6. But still, it must explain the difference in price somehow. You can easily read anything on the phone indoors, and it behaves very well outdoors too. Although, if the sun shines bright, you may struggle a bit to see what’s on the screen. Other than that, everything looks great on the screen, and you might have to use two fingers to type messages on the slightly larger screen.

Moving forwards, toward the software, you should know that the P8 has the latest version of Android Lollipop. However, if you are familiar with this type of software, you will have a hard time recognizing its look on the new Huawei phone. Why is that? Because the manufacturer used an interface called Emotion UI, which actually changes the way Android Lollipop looks entirely. Not even the icons will look the same. It misses though the app tray. So all the apps you will install on the P8 will be distributed on several home pages on the phone. It is something that Apple also does, when it comes to iPhone. So, even some users don’t like not having an app tray, it may not seem too bothering for the majority of them. It has the same amount of customization options like in the case of other Huawei phones, so this model brings nothing new.

The processor is an octa core 64-bit Kirin 930, with a performance of 1.5 GHz and an RAM capacity of 3GB. So you will be surprised to notice that the phone is very potent and works extremely smooth, without tripping or making you wait too much while enjoying an application. It can really compete with the top notch phones. It is very flexible when you need to work on it, and it keeps a fast pace. Also, it unrolls without too many problems even some of the most demanding games. To make an idea about what it can do, P8 was tested by playing Grand Theft Auto on it, delivering surprising performances during gameplay. So it is another plus for this affordable phone.

A pleasant surprise is the cameras of the phone. Both back and front cameras are made by Sony. The back camera has a maximum resolution of 13 megapixels, and the front camera has 8 megapixels, a lot more than the average type of phones. So you will be able to make clear and nice selfies, to share with your friends. Considering the fact that Galaxy S6 has a rear camera of 16 megapixels, you may not be impressed by the camera equipped on P8. But don’t draw any conclusions until you try it out. Afterwards, you are free to comment if you’ll have anything to say. The camera performs surprisingly well even on low-light, delivering very good photos. It also has some exciting modes for shooting images. So don’t be afraid to play with it. You will enjoy beautiful and bright pictures, with well-balanced brightness and color distribution. The images are just like in real life, without looking artificial. Although, if you zoom in, you won’t get the same quality, the sharpness of the camera suffering in this stage.

Now, a matter that is of high interest when it comes to all new generation smartphones is the battery. So you will think about how it will perform and how long will it last without charging. The manufacturer claims that it can last even one day, in average using conditions, which can be a great performance considering the large screen and powerful processor. But if you’re not fingering the phone all day long, you might just get very near to that performance. At a test using multiple applications, running games, videos, music, literally working the phone out, the battery lasted for about 10 hours, which is a bit lower that P8’s top competitors.

If you want a decent running phone, at a fair price, then P8 might be what you’re looking for. However, don’t expect it to run like the S6 because as you were able to see, its performances are nowhere near. It is a great phone to have if you don’t have too high expectations, and you don’t wish to spend too much. But in case you want to enjoy the latest technology then you may be a bit disappointed by the P8. After all, it is only a mid-range phone, suitable for the same type of expectations.
